DENVER — The Denver Stars and Dallas Stars are working on a new home ice battle in the Western Conference.
Stars captain Jamie Benn said Wednesday he expects to play against the Dallas Stars on Saturday when the Stars take on the Calgary Flames.
Benn and the Stars had a 4-2 shootout win on Wednesday.
“We want to try to get a win, so we’re going to go out there and try to try and get a victory,” Benn said.
“We want a win for everybody.
We want a team win for everyone.
We’re just going to try for a win and get it done.”
The Stars are 5-1-1 in their past eight games.
Stars coach Lindy Ruff said Tuesday that Benn and Tyler Seguin will not play against Calgary on Saturday.
“It’s not a decision they made themselves,” Ruff said.
We’ll see how it goes.
We’ve got to get some guys healthy.
It’s a long season and a lot of guys are going to get hurt.
It’ll be tough, but it’s a team decision.
We have to go with the team.”
Benn and Seguina are playing for a $1.8 million contract extension.
Benn said he is looking forward to getting back to his hometown, San Antonio.
“I’m happy to be back home and to be able to play hockey again, so I’m just looking forward and trying to do the best I can,” Benn told the media after the game.
The Stars have not had a shootout win in 11 games.
Ruff said Benn was the lone player to have two shots against the Stars.
“That’s a great start,” Benn joked.
“It’s a good start to the season.
I thought it was a really good start.”
Stars defenseman Alex Goligoski also played well Wednesday.
He had a goal and an assist in the win.
The Stars have two goals in their last three games.
